LEURA PARK ESTATE WINERY PAVILION
The Leura Park Estate Winery Pavilon near Melbourne is a feat of imagination designed by the award-winning practice of Centrum Architects. The client’s brief was to construct something original that would catch the eye. The design team took inspiration from the winery’s name (leura means ‘lava’ in the local Aboriginal language) to create a singular organic design that resembles a lava flow. Extending the interpretation, the architects conceived of a shell-like roof consisting of four curved concrete sections that rise up from the floor and fold over, held up by tilted steel columns, and walls of glass. In the centre of this airy, austere space, a steel Ergofocus contemporary fireplace designed by Dominique Imbert adds a bright spot of warmth.
